Title: NSF ECR: Uncovering Biology Department Cultural Commitment to Graduate Student Teaching Professional Development
Lead PI: Grant Gardner, Middle Tennessee State University
Summary: Former leaders from the original BioTAP Research Coordination Network (Grant Gardner, Gili Marbach-Ad, Kris Miller, and Beth Schussler) recently received funding from the National Science Foundation’s Education Core Research program to study biology departmental cultures related to Graduate Student Teaching Professional Development (GS TPD). This three-year Delphi research study attempts to better understand what cultural characteristics make some departments more (or less) likely to provide support for graduate student teaching? Data from the project will be used to generate a theory of change for improving the quality of support for GS TPD in biology departments and develop a self-assessment tool for use by departments wanting to improve their cultures.
